The Nature of Man (and how it relates to Hook-Ups)

I’ve been ruminating for about a week on an Op-Ed piece by David Brooks that appeared in the NY Times, recently. In it, Brooks opines that relationships are becoming more transitory as a result of communication technology (notably texting).

This question of the Nature of Man (and how it relates to hook-ups) is really only part rhetorical and part genuinely interrogative – I’d really would like to know what people think. Is Brooks just viewing the singles scene through some (long) misty lens? My inclination is to think this is indeed the case, but I am also aware that, just as not everyone born in the mid-70s had an upbringing like my own, that perhaps I too am extrapolating.
