You Can’t Charge for Info
Blogging Thrive Social MediaPublished July 26, 2010 at 5:09 am No CommentsI came across this article today on one of my favorite social media sites Reddit today.
The article is from the Guardian, a London-based newspaper. It talks about another London paper, The Times, which put up a paywall about 3 weeks ago.

Paywalls are basically registration pages. The landing page gives you the first few lines of an article, and once you register and pay a certain fee, you can read the rest.
The Times has apparently lost nearly 90% of its online readers since putting up the paywall 3 weeks ago.
90% in 3 weeks? Jeepers.
This is a prime example of the fact that you cannot charge for info. Google changed that. Info is free, but where you get that info is what you can control. Maybe you should start a blog?
